OpenAI has rolled out Daybreak, a new cyber‑defense suite that taps the power of its latest large language models to hunt for software weaknesses.

How Daybreak works

Daybreak blends the reasoning of GPT‑5.5 with the coding know‑how of OpenAI’s Codex engine. The combo lets partners run:

  • Secure code reviews
  • Threat modeling
  • Patch validation
  • Dependency risk analysis
  • Vulnerability detection and remediation guidance

Three model tiers

OpenAI offers three versions of the GPT‑5.5 model:

  • Default GPT‑5.5 – General‑purpose tasks.
  • GPT‑5.5 with Trusted Access for Cyber – Core defensive work such as secure code review, malware analysis, and patch validation.
  • GPT‑5.5‑Cyber – Authorized red‑team, penetration testing, and controlled validation.

Early partners and rollout plan

Daybreak is not open to the public yet. OpenAI says it will work with a select group of industry and government partners while it fine‑tunes “more cyber‑capable models.” Current partners include Cloudflare, Cisco, Oracle, and Akamai.
